Job Description:

Alliance Engineering is a growing, full service engineering and construction management firm with offices in Richmond, VA, Newport News, VA and Baltimore, MD. We specialize in small to medium size industrial projects. The majority of our clients are major industrial companies that can be found in the Fortune 500 listing.

The ideal candidate will have an outgoing personality, be able to organize  work, have 10+ years of technical design and engineering experience in industrial /  manufacturing, and chemical plants.

Typical Duties:

The following duties are typical of the position, but are not all encompassing. Each person is expected to help out in whatever duties are required to deliver a quality product on schedule.

These responsibilities and duties are those for which the Project Engineer is accountable on each project. It is the Project Engineer’s responsibility to immediately notify management for assistance if there are any deviations anticipated or realized to these responsibilities and duties.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

· Profitability of all project(s).

· Defining and meeting all schedules

· High quality, accuracy, and consistency in all deliverables

· High level of client service and satisfaction

· Origination and weekly maintenance of all project control tools.

TYPICAL DUTIES

· Meets with clients, develops scope of work and proposals for initiation of project.

· Defines manpower requirements and integrates specific needs with overall office manpower allocations.

· Generates and maintains project schedules with milestone dates for timely completion of project.

· Sets up the cost accounting system with accounting to reflect specific client requirements with respect to weekly updates, billing period, billing rates, and oversees accuracy of invoices.

· Uses established or develops project procedures for personnel allocated to staff. This shall include:

- Communication documentation

- Drawing Lists

- Weekly project meetings

- Drawing checking

- Needs lists

- Weekly project updates

- Safety requirements for on-site field work

- Interdisciplinary reviews

· Reviews project drawings with lead discipline engineers to assure scope of work and quality of service is met.

· Maintains client relations throughout project to assure scope of services is maintained and issues change orders as project progresses for those items outside the original scope.


 

· Responsible for the project schedule and budget of the project.

· Updates department managers with respect to personnel performance on specific project. Issues project close-out personnel reviews summaries.

· Maintains permanent record files on all project communications.

· Develops technical competence of project team members.

· Understands the requirements of the contract with the client.

· Assures communications are maintained between all team members including the client.

· Requests and obtains client approval before performing services outside the scope of services.

· Maintains personal utilization (85% minimum)

· Collection of past-due accounts receivable

· Other duties as may be required for the good of the project.

· Assists in the development of new work.

· May direct project engineering task team comprised of project secretary and assistant project engineers.

· Maintains pro-active sales effort with existing and new clients so as to keep communications open for future opportunities.

· Understand and implement the applicable sections of the Alliance ISO 9000 Quality System Manual.

· Keep personal data updated to reflect current experience, training, registration and professional areas of expertise.

Limits of Authority:

May not change the scope of work or deviate from any other part of the contractual document without written client authorization or officer approval. Within the project team, has the obligation to assign work, to establish schedules, to instruct team members, and when necessary, to critique their efforts. Does not have hire and fire authority, but may recommend such actions. In the event of a conflict with another Project Engineer over obtaining the services of an employee who is assigned to both project teams, the project engineers are expected to resolve this matter satisfactorily between themselves. The Project Engineer has authority to approve change orders during installation. He/She has the responsibility to identify and inform the appropriate department managers of project team members who are performing inadequately on the project. Dismissal of the individual from the project team shall ultimately be the responsibility of the department manager and engineering manager.

Relationship to Others:

A major and significant responsibility of the Project Engineer is to maintain a satisfactory client relationship. The Project Engineer must be able to relate to clients in a mature, thoughtful, professional and pleasant manner. The development of technical skills of subordinates is also a part of the position, and this requires empathy, patience, understanding and a genuine interest in the technical betterment of those in the firms.


 

Knowledge and Experience Required:

B.S. degree in an engineering discipline with 10 years’ minimum experience as an engineer/project engineer.
